There are many different levels of college degrees; a Master of Education is considered one of the most prestigious, and can be received from a large number of recognized universities. Curriculum and Instruction/Curriculum and Teaching

With instruction and curriculum or teaching areas of study, students begin to develop their knowledge of teaching and the practice of helping others to learn. The courses within the realm of curriculum and instruction typically have a focus on areas of public service, teaching (all levels of students), as well as general scholarship. Often, students who major in the curriculum and instruction or the major of curriculum and teaching will also participate in educational research, which can be quite involved and time consuming. Guidance Counseling

For students with a major in guidance counseling, preparations are made to enter into the field of student counseling. People seeking to earn a Master of Education degree in guidance counseling must have a solid knowledge of current affairs, as well as have an ability to deal with socially difficult issues.

Counselor Education

The major in counselor education is a bit more in-depth, and the career goal is towards becoming mental health professionals. These students often strive towards receiving a state issued license in order to practice mental health counseling. Approximately 90 hours of study per quarter is required in order to receive a state issued license.

Academic Enrichment

For those majoring in academic enrichment, potential teachers are gaining new knowledge in a particular area of study or branch of teaching careers. Adult Education

Adults have very different educational needs than children, and adult education typically includes educating students over eighteen years of age. Some Master of Education courses for this include GED or high school diploma programs, adult literacy, parent education, and career or job training classes, often sponsored by the government. Some other programs include dance and art classes, and these are often fee-based. Students focus on the learning process in people versus how the institution serves in terms of a strictly professional education.
